In a significant shift from its original plan, the upcoming romantic comedy ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, will no longer have a theatrical release. Instead, the film is set to premiere directly on an OTT platform.
The film was initially scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on May 9. However, this plan was cancelled just a day ahead of its release.
This decision comes in light of recent events and the heightened security drills across India. The announcement followed India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror camps in Pakistan. Concerns were raised over possible disruptions to public life, leading to uncertainty and rising safety concerns post-Operation Sindoor. Even special shows organized for the media were cancelled due to these concerns.
Maddock Films, the official production house for the film, and Amazon MGM Studios released a joint statement regarding the change. They stated that while they were eagerly looking forward to celebrating the film in theatres, “the spirit of the nation comes first” The statement concluded with “JAI HIND”
‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ is a family entertaine, described as a heartwarming romantic comedy. Directed and written by Karan Sharma. it promises a delightful mix of charm, chaos, and small-town romance.
The film is set in the vibrant lanes of Varanasi and follows the story of Ranjan, played by Rajkummar Rao. Ranjan is a hopeless romantic who secures a government job hoping to win back his love, Titli, played by Wamiqa Gabbi. However, fate throws a curveball just before their wedding. The sources mention Ranjan finds himself stuck in a time loop, waking up daily on the morning of his Haldi ceremony. What unfolds is described as a hilarious yet touching journey of love, destiny, and second chances. The film also features veteran actors like Seema Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, and Raghubir Yadav in crucial roles. Dinesh Vijay produced the film under the banner Maddock Films.
